Firstly he will dry the piece of chosen wood this can takes years, he will then turn it into a rough shape, to then dry further, checking regularly throughout the drying time. The grain in the wood is continuous through the length of the mill as he uses a piece from the top of the top, to create the insert. Before the ceramic Crush Grind mechanism is placed in the hollowed out mill he will then sit to dry further to ensure if there is any movement in he can carefully shave down as required. He will then sand and polish the mill using a food safe oil to protect the timber and strengthen it.
