His work centres on carefully considered furniture made from native timbers, with a focus on honesty in both material and construction.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"998\" data-start=\"624\"\u003eGrowing up around his parents’ woodcarving and gilding workshop, alongside the forests and hills of Scotland, gave Sam an early appreciation of both craft and the natural landscape. After studying biology in Edinburgh he returned to working with wood, developing his skills in a number of workshops including a period with master cabinet maker Andrew Lawton in Derbyshire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1379\" data-start=\"1000\"\u003eToday Sam works from a converted steading workshop where he designs and builds furniture using mostly locally sourced timber. Much of the wood he works with has been collected, sawn and seasoned by hand over many years, often from trees that had to be felled for other reasons.
